Proactive Product Recall Following Compass Minerals Possible Ingredient Contamination

November 11, 2024 - Toronto (ON)- Bimbo Canada is proactively expanding its voluntary product recall.  This is in response to the expanded recall that was just communicated by Compass Minerals, the supplier of the Sifto brand Hy·Grade salt used in these products, which may contain metal pieces. This decision is a precautionary step to ensure the highest standards of product quality and consumer safety.

The recall now includes additional batches of sliced bread, English muffins, and bagels available at various retailers. Products baked with the potentially contaminated salt lot numbers were distributed in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and St-Pierre and Miquelon, and have been removed from store shelves.

We place a premium on producing the highest quality products and we have taken every possible measure to safeguard the quality of our products:

  • We immediately stopped using all of the affected salt lots and stopped salt deliveries from the affected Compass Minerals facility.

  • A new salt supplier has been secured.

  • As an additional safety measure, we are now sifting salt through an even finer mesh to detect any potential foreign materials.

  • All finished products continue to be passed through a metal detector before distribution to store shelves.

Through our food safety processes no foreign materials, including metal particles, were detected in any of our products before they left our bakeries.

We understand that recalls can cause concern, and we want to reassure our consumers that we are committed to the highest quality and safety standards in all our products.
