Grupo Bimbo Announces the Incorporation of Four Thousand New Electric Vehicles to Its Sustainable Delivery Fleet in Mexico

  • The Company will invest $2.8 billion pesos during the next four years to increase its fleet of electric vehicles.
  • Moldex, an affiliate of Grupo Bimbo, located in Lerma, State of Mexico, will be in charge of producing the 4,000 vehicles, beginning in 2020.

As part of its commitment to the environment, Grupo Bimbo announced that during the next four years, beginning in 2020, it will grow its fleet of electric vehicles used for delivery in Mexico by 4,000, representing an investment of some $2.8 billion pesos.

To achieve this goal, Moldex, an affiliate of Grupo Bimbo and which has been working on the engineering and production of electric vehicles since 2012, will be in charge of supplying 1,000 vehicles per year for the next four years, which in turn will be incorporated to different distribution routes throughout the country, thereby reconfirming its promise to develop innovative solutions in favor of the planet.

It is important to note that these small delivery trucks are air-driven, which means that they recharge their batteries with clean energy that comes from the Piedra Larga windfarm located in the state of Oaxaca, thus completing a virtuous and sustainable cycle.

Grupo Bimbo has the largest fleet of electric delivery vehicles in Mexico, and one of the most extensive in Latin America. The Company already has more than 400 vehicles of this type in Mexico, operating in cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, to name just a few.

In 2012 we began planning and designing what would become the first electric vehicle in Grupo Bimbo. Today, thanks to the talent of Mexican engineers from our affiliate, Moldex, located in Lerma, in the State of Mexico, we have a fleet of over 400 electric vehicles, and we are ready to take this huge step of increasing it by 4,000 more to sustainably distribute products to small stores throughout the country; these vehicles operate without leaving a footprint on the planet,” stated Javier González Franco Vice President of Grupo Bimbo.

With actions such as these, Grupo Bimbo continues driving initiatives in favor of the environment and working every day to build a highly sustainable Company.
