Grupo Bimbo is donating more than 6 million slices of bread to different food banks where the company has operations
- The virtual Global Energy Race had more than 300,000 participants from 127 countries.
- Thanks to the high number of participants who ran different distances, Grupo Bimbo donated more than 6M slices of bread to different food banks in the countries where it has operations, thereby achieving a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS ™ title for the world's largest donation of baked goods.

November, 11, 2020 – In light of COVID-19, Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest bakery company, held the Global Energy Race (GER) virtually this year. The race, which is the company’s most important sporting event, seeks to foster physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle and donate 20 slices of bread for each registered participant, regardless of the kilometers run/walked.
Globally, more than 300,000 runners in 127 countries participated. Thanks to their efforts, Grupo Bimbo has donated more than 6 million slices of bread to food banks where the company has operations, in addition to the 1.6 million slices that were already donated by the company this year, at the beginning of the pandemic.
Of all the cities with participants in the Virtual Global Energy Race, the countries with the highest number of runners registered for the race were as follows:
- Mexico, with +67,000 participants, allowing the company to donate more than 24 thousand kg of bread to food banks in the country, achieving a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest donation of baked goods in the world.
- Peru, with +54,000 participants
- China, with +33,000 participants
In Canada, more than 1,200 participants were registered, which represents more than 24,000 slices of bread that will be donated to food banks in different cities of the country.
This virtual race allowed its participants to choose between running 1, 3, 5, or 10 kilometers in distance, individually or as a family, wherever they decided best for health and safety measures, to be completed any day from October 5 to the 11, 2020.
