- The 2017 Global Energy Race by Demspter’s in Canada brought together 2,000 participants to complete 3KM walk/run and 10KM race.
- Thanks to the kilometres run and walked by participants, more than 20,000 slices of bread will be donated to local Food Banks in Canada.
Toronto, September 24, 2017 – As part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity, Canada Bread today hosted the second annual Global Energy Race by Dempster’s in Toronto, ON, Richmond, BC and Quebec City, QC. As a proud member of Grupo Bimbo, Canada was one of the 21 countries to host races that attracted more than 121,000 participants encouraging families to get in motion.
Thanks to the participation of thousands of families across the world, Grupo Bimbo is donating two slices of bread for each kilometre completed to local food banks in every host city. In Canada, more than 20,000 slices of bread will be donated to the North York Harvest Food Bank, Richmond Food Bank and Moisson Québec.
Participant T-shirts and medals are collectible items and feature symbols of tenacity and inspiration. This year, the distinctive image was the Christ of Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which will be the host city for the 10k race winners in 2018. The top men and women finishers from every participating city were awarded with a direct ticket to the 2018 Global Energy Race in Rio de Janeiro, for themselves and one companion.
Due to the recent earthquakes that affected several states in Mexico, the races in Mexico City and Puebla were postponed. Grupo Bimbo, in an act of solidarity with the affected communities, will donate the equivalent amount of the admission fees of the races ran today in Mexico.
